III INTERNATIONAL SPECIALISED TRANSLATION FORUM

The National Autonomous University of Mexico’s National School of Languages, Linguistics and Translation (ENALLT-UNAM) is holding the third International Specialised Translation Forum (FITE 2019) on 29-31 October.

The chosen topic of this forum is specialised translation from  both the academic and the professional perspective.

As a consequence of transformations in the translation industry, adapting translation education to the needs of the market has been a challenge all over the world, not only in Mexico.

The various translation education programmes that do exist must take market demands into account so that when translators have completed their courses they can go into the professional world and respond to the demands that exist, in this way preventing the appearance of a gap between the academic and professional worlds.

By encouraging academics and professionals to share their experiences, this forum will answer questions such as: (i) to what extent are translation courses designed to respond to market demand? (ii) What market incentives are there to foster the translation profession? (iii) Are newly-qualified translators prepared to tackle translation jobs? (iv) How has the (social, economic, labour) perception of the translation profession changed as a result of the consolidation of university-level translation programmes?

Traductanet, as a company offering translation, interpretation, software and website localisation, transcreation, multilanguage SEO and content creation services, will be keeping an eye on this forum because it believes it is essential for translation courses to keep up to date with and continuously adapt to the ever-changing demands of the market.
