TranslatingEurope Forum 2017

This year, the TranslatingEurope Forum is being held for the 4th time, and will take place from 6th-7th November. This annual event is organised by the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders in the translation industry from all over the EU.

The forum aims to facilitate discussion on topics of common interest. While last year’s theme was translation tools and technologies, this year the forum will focus on “translators’ skills and employability”.   This will include debates on the skills young and established translators need to thrive in the business, new skillsets corresponding to changing market needs, how to keep up to date and get the right training at the right time. There will also be discussion regarding the skills needed for mastering translation tools and technology.

This year’s forum looks set to attract experts from the private sector, academics, public services, educators, as well as both young and experienced translation professionals. Indeed, last year’s event was attended by almost 600 industry stakeholders. Peter Hade (Senior Advisor, GALLUP) and Jaap van der Meer (TAUS) have already been confirmed as keynote speakers. It looks set to be an interesting and informative event – with registration opening in September.
