Workshop for Professional Interpreters – Edinburgh, 12-16 January 2015

This workshop offers participants an opportunity to brush up their oral communication skills and develop greater flexibility in expressing ideas in English. A variety of activities are involved, all of which are designed to practise passive and active spoken language skills:

  • Video and sound recordings, plus invited speakers
  • Discussion, summaries, presentations, role play etc.
  • Vocabulary flexibility, use of metaphors, collocations etc.

The materials cover a variety of topics of general interest without any particular focus on one subject area. Instruction in specific points of English usage is included, if required. Actual interpreting is NOT involved. To ensure intensive tuition, participant numbers are strictly limited to 8 participants. The charge for the workshop is 850 euros. This includes refreshments at the venue during the workshop and the coffee breaks and an invitation to attend an evening cultural event. EU interpreters preparing for internal examinations may be interested in following up the workshop with a week of individual tuition. The workshop is taught by Hugh Keith (BA, PGCE, MITI) and Alan Ross (MA, Dip Trans). Hugh and Alan have been working in teaching, translating and interpreting for over 25 years and running the Edinburgh Workshops since 2010. For further information visit www.xchange-services.co.uk
