Which are the most-studied languages in Europe?

According to the 2017 Eurydice report, the foreign language most studied by students in Europe is English, followed by French, German then Spanish.

In those countries where learning a language other than English is mandatory (e.g. Belgium, Cyprus), it is normally one of that country’s official languages.

Finland is an exception, in that Swedish is the first mandatory foreign language taught in schools that teach in Finnish (while Finnish is mandatory in schools that teach in Swedish).

This growth in the knowledge of languages will not eliminate the need for translation agencies, however. In addition to the specific services they offer, such as simultaneous or consecutive interpretation, translation companies provide a guarantee of effective and barrier-free communication.
