Language and feelings

Do we feel different when we speak in another language?

Research by Susan Ervan-Tripp suggests the answer to this is yes. In her study of bilingual women, the responses differed depending on how they were asked in the two languages.

Another study by Athanasopoulos asked German and English speakers to describe the same activity. It was observed the German speakers focused more on the goal, while English speakers were more concerned with the activity.

However, this same test applied to bilingual speakers of these languages gave different results, depending on what country the subjects were in: if they were in Germany, they focused on the goal; while if they were in the United Kingdom, they focused on the activity.

Translation is much more than the translator simply ensuring the text corresponds with a specific terminology. As such, it is very important that a specialist company like Traductanet is given responsibility for all the tasks involving the translation or interpretation of all its clients’ communications.
