In 2012, the Oxford English Dictionary named “omnishambles” its word of the year. It is a combination of the prefix “omni” meaning “all” and “shambles”, “a state of total disorder”. Accordingly, the OED defines the term as “A situation that has been comprehensively mismanaged, characterized by a string of blunders and miscalculations.”
We are very pleased to announce that TraductaNet has been chosen to work for the European Union, in the field of terminology.
“Brocialism” and “brocialist” are pejorative terms used to men who have a certain set of political views. The word itself is a portmanteau of “bro”, a term often used to refer to men who behave in a casually sexist and juvenile manner, and “socialist”.
“Woke” is a term that literally means “awake”, but which has more recently taken on the meaning of someone who is socially and politically aware. The word originates in the US, coming from the dialect known as African American Vernacular English (AAVE).
Definitions matter. They provide clarity. Accurate communication and understanding result in effective conversations and facilitate efficient business dealings, especially in what is considered a post-truth era.
The term “non-binary” refers to a gender identity “not defined in terms of traditional binary oppositions such as male and female” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2017).
Define-se como “um local especial em nossa casa, muito confortável, cheio de almofadas, onde passamos horas intermináveis na Internet”.
Define-se como “relativo ou denotando circunstâncias em que factos objetivos são menos influentes na formação da opinião pública do que apelos à emoção e crença pessoal”.
